Asian Tables Games Blog

Rivers Casino Philadelphia offers some of the most exciting Asian table games in Philadelphia. In this two-part blog series, we are going to share more about these table games and how to play them! In today’s blog we will be discussing Pai Gow Tiles, Asia Poker, and Face Up Pai Gow Poker.
Pai Gow Tiles
The game of Pai Gow is a game of Chinese tiles, which is generally believed to have originated in China around the 12th century A.D. The name Pai Gow literally translated means “to make nine,” which is the object of the game. Pai Gow is played on a table and setting similar to blackjack: there is a dealer and seats for up to six players. However, instead of cards, the dealer distributes tiles to the players. There are 32 tiles referred to as “tiles” which are mixed or shuffled by the dealer. The tiles are placed in eight stacks of four each.
Asia Poker
Another of our casino games is Asia Poker, which is based on the ancient Chinese game called “13” and combines Poker with Pai Gow Poker. The game is played with a traditional deck of 52 cards plus one Joker. The Joker can be used as an Ace, or as any card to complete a Straight, Flush, Straight Flush or Royal Flush. Hand rankings from highest to lowest are: Four Aces; Royal Flush; Straight Flush (the highest ranking is Ace, 2, 3, 4 of the same suit and second highest is K, Q, J, 10 of the same suit), Four of a Kind, Flush, Straight (the highest ranking is A, K, Q, J; second highest is A, 2, 3 4 and the lowest is 5, 4, 3, 2), Three of a Kind, Two Pairs, Pair and No Pair.
Face Up Pai Gow Poker
Face Up Pai Gow Poker is a variation of Pai Gow Poker with an additional bonus wager. Players may bet any amount within table limits, however, a fortune bet of at least $5 qualifies them for envy bonus payouts. Players win the envy bonus when someone else at the table receives a four of a kind or higher. In Face Up Pai Gow Poker, the dealer’s cards are dealt Face Up prior to player’s setting their hand and winning wagers are not charged commission! However, if the dealer has an Ace high Pai Gow, all Pai Gow wagers are an automatic push.
